NOTE: Hematite is the mineral form of iron oxide. Much hematite is at least weakly magnetic, although not all. Many of the minerals and rocks sold as “magnetic hematite” are in fact synthetic. Hematite is a 5.5-6.5 on the Mohs Hardness scale but should be kept away from water because it is an iron oxide that rusts when it comes in contact with water.
